Responsible for the corporate reporting, business unit performance measurement, taxation, and cash management functions for Beedie Development Group.

Key Responsibilities:

Compile financial reporting packages which include:

  • Annual financial statements, in accordance with GAAP, for individual entities
  • Quarterly consolidated financial statements for reporting group (over 85 legal entities), in accordance with GAAP
  • Quarterly financial analysis to explain variances and communicate key financial information to senior management and external auditors
  • Quarterly KPI reporting to support strategic business units and corporate goals
  • Reporting to external investors

Other duties include: 

  • Follow all aspects of month/quarter/year end close activities to meet deadlines
  • Review monthly reconciliations, including bank, intercompany, and various sub ledger
  • Prepare complex journal entries (includes corporate wind-up, eliminations, acquisitions, etc.) and review journal entries prepared by junior accountant (includes GST, accruals, amortization, etc.)
  • Maintain and oversee certain modules in accounting software
  • Assist with preparation of annual audit information and supporting documents
  • Assist in preparation and review of corporate tax returns
  • Identify complex / new GAAP issues as they arise, analyze impact to Group, and prepare recommendation
  • Handle special projects, responsibilities and other duties as assigned by Corporate Controller and other Finance staff
  • Suggest and implement efficient procedures within the role

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant accounting experience, with exposure to real estate or construction an asset;
  • Education: Completion of accounting designation (CMA, CGA, CA, CPA) and university level education;
  • Computer skills:
  • Required: Microsoft Office (intermediate to advanced Excel);
  • Not required, but an asset: Timberline, Taxprep and Caseware.
  • An organized self-starter who is attentive to detail and able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment;
  • Strong work ethic, sense of responsibility and confidentiality;
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks, likely with competing priorities;
  • Strong decision making, communication (both verbal and written), and analytical skills;
  • Comfortable and confident in asking questions.
